History of the hotel Zlata hvezda

The hotel Zlata hvezda (meaning Golden Star), much like the city of Trebon as a whole, is rich in history. The present facilities of the hotel are housed in three historic buildings. That dates its origin back to the gothic period.

Today, the hotel displays a unique combination of architectural styles, including baroque interiors and a stunning Renaissance facade. This unusual fusion is directly linked to the history of the city. Thanks to the occurrence of numerous fires in the years 1562, 1618, 1723, and 1781, nearly the entire city was destroyed and extensive reconstruction was required at various stages of the building’s history.

The oldest written reference to the house #107 (the main building of the hotel Zlata hvezda) is found in city records from the year 1687, when it was in the possession of the Preittenbergs´ family. From 1724 the house belonged to the city of Trebon.

In 1781, following a serious fire and subsequent renovation, the building reopened as a pub with permission to brew its own beer. The house was first given its current name, Zlata hvezda (Golden Star), in 1796, the same year in which the building returned to hands of private owners.

Possession of the building changed over the years until the second half of the 20th century when the government gained ownership. A major renovation of the building began in 1980 and was completed in 1989 when the hotel opened.

In 1997, the company Adria-Neptun Ltd. became the owner of the hotel. After a thorough renovation in 2004, Zlata hvezda was pronounced the first and is still the only 4-star hotel in the city.
